How Can CBD Alleviate Benzodiazepine Withdrawal?

Benzodiazepine addiction results in blurred vision, weakness, poor judgment, drowsiness, mood changes, and risk-taking behaviors. Withdrawal from these class of drugs can have a dramatic negative impact on people's lives. However, it’s not easy and leads to rather uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. Common symptoms of withdrawal are increased anxiety, irritability, and sleep disturbances.

What are Benzodiazepines?

Benzodiazapenese are a drug class made up of tranquilizers such as anxiolytics and sedatives to address a multitude of conditions, including panic  or anxiety disorder. They are used to treat muscle relaxation, anxiety, and sleep disorders.

These days, the mental health community describes benzodiazepine abuse as a hypnotic, anxiolytic, or sedative use disorder. People who take a high volume of benzodiazepines within a long time have a great risk to be diagnosed with benzodiazepine abuse. They crave for a higher dosage to achieve the same effect that got when they initially took them. The drugs can be Niravam, Ativan, Xanax, Librium, Klonopin, Alprazolam, Tranxene, Restoril, and Halcion.

Benzodiazepines have strong sedative effects and addiction-forming chemical properties. That’s why it poses a high risk of abuse. As a prescription drug, it’s important to remember that patients have medical reasons to use them. However, longer use can lead to addiction.

Benzodiazepine addiction manifests itself with psychological and physical symptoms. Abusing the prescription drug results in many dangers. These symptoms can include weakness, confusion, lack of motor coordination, coma, difficulty breathing, anorexia, headaches, memory problems, tremors, or even death.

Effective Treatment

Dosage reduction and/or discontinuation of Benzodiazepines is the common cause of withdrawal. From extreme anxiety to sleep issues, discontinuation can lead to a variety of problems. Its always best to consult with your physician when you wish to discontinue taking any sort of benzodiazaepene drug.

Benzodiazepine is no doubt an expert-recommended drug to address many health issues like sleep deprivation. But overuse is not advisable because it can result in addiction and an abrupt discontinuation can lead to the severe withdrawal symptoms we mentioned

If you're intent on discontinuing using benzodiazapenes always consult with your physician before doing so. CBD maybe of use and can possible help alleviate some of the symptoms during the withdrawal process. What many people don’t know is that CBD serves as a GABA-uptake inhibitor. This means that cannabinoid creates a surplus of the neurotransmitter in the brain that plays a vital role in boosting a calming effect which can help alleviate one of the major symptoms of withdrawal which is anxiety.

Benzodiazepine withdrawal is extremely dangerous and can be classified as a definite health worry once you go cold turkey. Its almost always advisable never to stop completely , but to taper off of them. But the tapering process and the road to eventual elimination will be a tough one where one will feel the opposite of the anxiety and calmness they had felt while on the benzos.
