Side effects of CBD

As part of our weekly blogs we thought we would discuss some of the side effects one may encounter when using CBD (cannabidiol).  CBD is an all-natural and very safe way to combat your anxiety or sleep issues, very few people might experience some minor side effects.

Below are some of the known side effects of this substance:

  • Dry mouth
  • Lightheadedness
  • Drowsiness
  • Low blood pressure

Cannabidiol,  known as CBD is the most recognized cannabinoid in the cannabis herb, together with THC. Even if these substances share similar origins, both don’t have the same features, and the effects on your body are different.  As we have discussed in previous blogs, CBD provides all the benefits of the hemp plant without the psychoactive effects or “smokers high” of THC

Many studies show the efficiency of CBD in dealing with various types of health conditions. Some of these studies summarize that CBD is safe to use and almost free of harmful effects. According to the research, controlled administration of CBD is non-toxic and safe to a human being. It also doesn’t induce modifications in food consumption, nor doesn’t affect psychological parameters such as body temperature. High dose of CBD is alleged to be tolerated as well though we recommend increasing it gradually.

Dry mouth

Another proven side effect of taking CBD is the dry sensation in your mouth. This side effect is due to the possible participation of the CBD inhibiting saliva emission. Research conducted in 2006 revealed that receptors that can bind CBD are there in your submandibular glands and these receptors are accountable for generating saliva. Binding of the receptors changes the production of the saliva, resulting in mouth dryness. This is only seen in very high dosages of CBD and shouldn’t be a worry for most users.

Low blood pressure

When you take CBD in a high dose, it can cause a small drop in blood pressure, usually 30 minutes to an hour after taking the CBD. The decrease in blood pressure leads to a feeling of lightheadedness. In case you are taking medicine for this health issue, you must consult your physician first before taking cannabidiol. Of course if you have high blood pressure this side effect can only be of benefit.

When you take CBD in a high dose, it can lead to drowsiness. If you’re affected this way, then you should avoid driving a car or operating machinery while taking CBD in high dosages

On the whole one of the major reasons CBD is so appealing is the relatively few side effects a user experiences as opposed to prescription medications to treat anxiety or sleep issues.
