CBD for anxiety


One of over eighty chemicals procured from the Cannabis sativa plant, Cannabidiol (CBD) is a primary ingredient of medical marijuana and by itself, is not addictive. Procured directly from the hemp plant, CBD for anxiety is readily available online to the public who may use it for any number of purposes, the most common being using CBD for anxiety. However, because it is neither addictive nor have any health complications been associated with the consumption of its pure form, legal restrictions on the purchase and use of CBD for anxiety are very lax compared to marijuana with which it is grouped in the same category. Sold as candies, capsules, an oil, oral spray, or powder, Cannabidiol can easily be made into creams and gels for topical use and what form it is used as depends on the reason for its use. While further research is required to explain the direct association between anxiety and cannabis and explain the mechanism of action, statistics have demonstrated that the use of CBD for anxiety is widespread. Surveys have revealed that often, regular CBD for anxiety users present an elevated prevalence of anxiety disorders while patients with anxiety disorders demonstrate relatively high rates of cannabis use. Whether the cannabis use increases the prevalence of developing long‐lasting anxiety disorders, is however, unclear and has birthed several hypotheses proposed in a bid to explain these associations. One thing that is sure though, from human experimental findings is a lack of anxiogenic effects, an excellent safety profile, and minimal sedative effects. In addition to presenting an extensive pharmacological profile expressed by the interaction with anxiety-related-behavior receptors, CBD for anxiety is reported to be tolerated across a wide range, going as high as 1500 mg/day administered orally, with little to no evidence of negative mood effects, psychomotor slowing, or vital sign abnormalities.


Typically, oils are the ideal way of consuming CBD for anxiety and a significant effect is observed in individuals who consume a minimum oral dose of 300 mg. CBD for anxiety can be administered in one of any three ways among which are:


1. Inhaling vaporized CBD oil using a vaping pen. This method is quick and the effect is immediately felt. However, increasing concerns pertain to the heating coils present in vape pens and the chemicals constituents of the vaping liquid and the heating coils inside vape pens. However, per these studies for CBD to have the appropriate effect on anxiety disorders, the oral dosage should range from 300 to 600 mg, in which case CBD reduces anxiety without affecting baseline anxiety levels, enhances fear extinction (and as a result manages PTSD) and cognitive behavioural therapy, and mitigates the long-term anxiogenic consequences of stress. Furthermore, through its range of actions including anticompulsive, anxiolytic, and panicolytic action, it has been demonstrated that an increased consumption of CBD for anxiety will inadvertently protect against the adverse effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient responsible for the marijuana “high."


As already mentioned, because CBD is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the purity and safety of each dose is not guaranteed and may vary within the same batch and with other batches.
